Mont Dane debuts today for Bart Cummings and Chuck Fipke

July 10, 2012

Mont Dane, a three year old son of Montjeu trained by Bart Cummings, makes his debut at Kembla Grange today.

It is a day I have been waiting for now for two years, ever since I discovered the fascinating story of Chuck Fipke. To read my original story about Fipke, which I wrote in June 2010, click here.

Fipke bought three yearlings from the Karaka sales in 2010, with the intention of winning the Melbourne Cup. However, the backstory behind Fipke is so much more fascinating than just wanting to win our greatest race.

Mont Dane, which runs in Fipke’s colours (white with a royal blue diamond emblem and epaulettes, as well as gold Sleeves, a royal blue collar and cuffs and a gold cap), is the first of the three yearlings to hit the racetrack.

He runs in Race 4 at Kembla Grange, scheduled to jump at 2:08pm AEST.
