Melbourne Cup order of entry – internationals dominate after second declarations

October 24, 2011

The order of entry for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup remains an intriguing puzzle following second declarations this morning.

As it stands currently, both Caulfield Cup placegetters – Tullamore and Green Moon – would miss out on a run.

However, with as many as four horses above him looking unlikely, Tullamore should get a run in the race that stops the nation.

For Green Moon, however, the equation is simple – he must win Saturday’s Lexus Stakes if he is to gain a run.

Metropolitan Handicap winner The Verminator is also just outside the top 24, but looks as though he should make the field.

He runs in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) on Saturday.

English trainer Brian Ellison’s pair, Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi, remain stranded just outside the top 24, as does the Luca Cumani-trained Bauer.

Wednesday’s Bendigo Cup and Saturday’s Lexus Stakes will prove crucial for horses further down the order as they attempt to gain a run.

Here is the order as it stands this morning:

1. Jukebox Jury
2. Americain
3. Shamrocker
4. Midas Touch
5. Dunaden
6. Manighar
7. Glass Harmonium (doubtful)

After the barrier fiasco in the Cox Plate… and now being in the Mackinnon, i thought Glass Harmonium might have been going to have a go at the cup.

It’s starting to look more likely Vicki – given the horse is yet to prove himself over 2400m I was under the impression they didn’t want to ruin him at 3200m. But for sure, after the fiasco that was the Cox Plate, it only seems right for them to try and get their revenge there!
