10/09/11 UPDATE – 15 horses to follow

September 10, 2011

So I think it will be easiest to give a weekly summary of what’s happening with my fifteen horses to follow, as in, who is running this weekend.

There are only a couple going around today.

DO YOU THINK starts the day in a 1500m handicap at Moonee Valley. He may get into an awkward spot from the barrier but this is his first run beyond 1400m, which should suit. Bart has hinted that the reason he is here is to get a look at the Valley before the Cox Plate. If he’s a Cox Plate horse, he’ll want to be winning this. Main dangers in my eyes are Costly Commitment, who comes out of a strong race first up, and Zabeelionaire.

FORETELLER drops significantly in distance and rises significantly in grade in the Group 2 Sebring Sprint (1300m) at Rosehill today. The little bit of rain they’ve had will take the sting out of the  ground, which should suit him. I’m not sure he’ll have the toe to win over 1300m but I expect to see him charging home at the end.

REBEL SOLDIER runs in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill. Reports suggest he is better going clockwise and I really liked his run in the Heatherlie. Today is the day he needs to produce something though. I think I’ll have the quinella with Altius.

SATIN SHOES has to carry only 50kg in the Group 3 McEwen Stakes (1100m) – that’s nothing. I think she’s best suited at the trip, as opposed to 1200m. Problem is the amount of pace in the race – she probably has to go forward, which won’t suit. I’m not sure how she’ll go – she can win, but the run two weeks ago is a bit of a worry.

Good punting!
