Today marks 100 days until the 2011 Melbourne Cup

July 24, 2011

Today marks 100 days until the 151st Melbourne Cup on November 1.

The next 100 days are arguably the most exciting every year in racing.

Sure, there is the Sydney autumn carnival, but at no point does it match the twists and turns of the spring – and that is in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Every day, there is a snippet of news relevant to one of the big races.

From the time entries are taken for the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate on August 2, racing fans are analysing the likely paths that horses will take to those races.

Entries are also taken for the Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas on that day.

Melbourne Cup entries follow on September 1, with entries for the Victoria Derby, Crown Oaks and Patinack Farm Classic due on September 20.

By September 20, we will know which internationals will be coming to Melbourne and we will be preparing for the culmination of Sydney’s carnival, on October 1.

There is NOTHING like the Spring Racing Carnival.

If you are like me, you have probably watched last year’s Melbourne Cup a number of times.

Here it is again:

I cannot wait for this year’s edition. Bring it on!
