Chuck Fipke’s two year olds named

June 7, 2011

Last year I wrote about Chuck Fipke, a Canadian mining magnate who decided he wanted to win the Melbourne Cup after watching Efficient streak to victory in 2007.

I read a blog post from Jack Werk about Chuck Fipke, and I found the story incredibly fascinating. Unfortunately, Jack passed away a couple of weeks after that blog post.

A renowned owner in America, with horses like Group 1 winner Tale of Ekati, Fipke has decided to follow a tried and true formula in his quest to win the race that stops the nation – buying progeny of super staying stallion Zabeel and placing them with twelve-time Melbourne Cup winning trainer Bart Cummings.

The three yearlings he bought at last year’s Karaka Premier Yearling Sale, all now rising three, have been named:

DIAMOND HUNTER (Zabeel x Love Diamonds)
(Montjeu x Blowin in the Wind)
OCTAHEDRAL (Zabeel x Markisa)

They have gone straight into my black book and they may trial soon.

Here’s hoping they do well!
