Ladys Angel wins final race of Sydney Carnival

April 24, 2011

It seemed appropriate that Joe Pride and Tim Clark won the final race of the Sydney Carnival with Ladys Angel.

Pride was one of the Carnival’s feature trainers, winning the Doncaster Mile with Sacred Choice last Saturday.

Clark rode Sacred Choice, as well as last Saturday’s winner of The Galaxy Atomic Force.

He also made headlines upon the death of his favourite horse, star mare Hot Danish.

Somehow, it was just right.

Heavily backed from $6 into $4.40, Ladys Angel enjoyed the wet track to burst to the lead near the outside fence.

She managed to hold Sainthood ($9.50) by three quarters of a length, with Tagus ($21) producing an eye catching run in third.

Pride said that his knew the Arena mare was a swimmer and he thought she had a good chance.

“It’s a good end to a good Randwick part of the Sydney carnival,” he said.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Swift Alliance was also heavily backed but he floundered in the going before finishing second last, more than six lengths behind the winner.
